Transmission Electron Microscope – TEM has high-resolution capabilities, with an image resolution of up to 0.14nm and a magnification of more than one million times. It is much superior to general image observation and analysis tools. TEM is widely used in material analysis, including microstructure analysis, micro-area component analysis, process analysis, fault analysis of semiconductors, metals, ceramics,... and other materials, and observation of defects in the internal structure and tissue analysis of biomedical samples.

- Personnel of the University (including Taipei Veterans General Hospital) who require using electron microscopes for research or teaching purposes and meet the following criteria may apply for the use of the electron microscopes:
- Have used the same type of electron microscope before, and the manager or technicians in charge of the electron microscope room have approved their operating techniques.
- Have experience using electron microscopes of other types, familiar with the operation after assistance, and whose skills have been approved by the manager or technician in charge of the electron microscope room.
- Those familiar with the electron microscope operation through training courses and whose skills are approved by the manager or technicians in charge of the electron microscope room.
- Off-campus users who require using electron microscopes or related equipment must apply to the manager of the electron microscope room, depending on whether there is enough time for on-campus users.
- The chairperson of the laboratory will be responsible for any damage caused by improper use of the equipment.
- Qualified users should learn the equipment setup and working environment before making online reservations.
- For the first time, the technicians will assist new users to avoid any operation errors and disturbances.
- In case of any technical difficulties when using the instruments in the future, please inform the technicians immediately and do not try to handle them yourself.
- Each instrument has simple operating procedures and notes. You MUST follow the guidelines to operate, and NEVER try to turn the knobs and switches that are not instructed.
- Please bring your own CD-ROM to save experimental data when using JEOL JEM-1400plus.
- Please keep or clean the specimens you used, and do not leave them on the work surface to avoid being stained or discarded.
- After use, please notify the technicians and follow the instructions to return everything to its original position and record related matters.
- Users must mention "Supported by the Electron Microscopy Facility in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University" or "This work was supported in part by the Electron Microscopy Facility in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University" in the acknowledgment when the paper is published.
The Electron Microscope Management Committee has approved and implemented these regulations, which will also be amended.

V: Certified users can make online reservations for self-operation
- Every Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, except for the above time (for new users to operate the machine with technicians), certified users are open to book for self-operation. (EDS and 3D Tomography are operated by technical staff). As a rule, each user can use it 4 hours a week.
- If there are no off-campus reservations on Wednesday, the TEM is open for on-campus users.
- Please go to YCIRC's Instrument Reservation System to register and make online reservations. If you have any questions, please call the school extension 65455 (Technician Ms. Yu) or 65235 (Technician Ms. Ho).
- After making a reservation, if you cannot use it for any reason, please cancel the reservation online the day before. If you make a second consecutive reservation without using it, your rights will be suspended for two months.
- The use of electron microscopes and other related instruments, the maintenance of required related instruments, and the consumption of materials will be shared by each user. The charging standards are as follows:
- TEM (JEOL JEM-1400plus): NT$1,050/hour; there are discounts for NYCU users depending on usage. (NT$2,100/hour for off-campus users).
- TEM (JEOL JEM-1400plus) + EDS: NT$1,250/hour; there are discounts for NYCU users depending on usage. (NT$2,500/hour for off-campus users).
- 3D Tomography: NT$1,050/hour (NT$2100/hour for off-campus users); image reconstruction analysis is currently free of charge and will be determined at a meeting based on usage.
- If the testing time is less than one hour, it will be charged as one hour. If the reservation is not canceled for any reason or the user is a no-show, they will be charged for the first hour.
- Ultra-thin sectioning of TEM specimens: NT$3,000 per specimen for research projects from NYCU faculties (each specimen is given four copper meshes, excluding staining.)
- Using the ultramicrotome: Please bring your own glass strips to prepare the glass knife, or you will be charged NT$360 per strip.
- If the device is damaged due to improper use, the laboratory director will be responsible.
