To obtain certification for the Calibur machine, you need to follow these steps:
  1. Be trained and practice operating the machine under the supervision of certified students before reserving a time slot for the certification exam at the center.
  2. Make an appointment at least three working days before the operational exam.
  3. If you're 5 minutes late for the examination, you'll be considered to have given up and failed the examination. If you fail the examination twice, you'll be charged for the third time.
  4. The exam ensures that students can operate the equipment correctly to avoid damage.
  5. The exam includes start-up and shut-down procedures, software operation, and understanding of the instrument's principle.
  6. You'll also need to bring samples for the exam.
  7. After receiving the qualified training, you can make an appointment 24 hours before using the "Instrument Reservation System."
  • Reservation Notes
    • Go to the "Instrument Reservation System" to make an appointment.
    • The person making the reservation must be the actual user and cannot be substituted.
    • Reservations can be made up to 2 weeks in advance, with a maximum of 3 sessions each. The maximum number of consecutive appointments for the same laboratory is 3 hours.
    • If you are late for more than half an hour of the reserved time, it will be considered a violation, and further violations may result in the cancellation of equipment used for one week.
  • Precautions for use
    • Obtain the certification before use
    • Follow the standard cleaning procedures whenever turning on and off the machine
    • Please record the correct usage time
    • Keep the bench clean after experiments.
    • You will be charged for use if you forget to turn off the machine.
※ The IRC Center monitors the equipment 24/7 and conducts random inspections. Failure to comply with the guidelines may result in fines and liability for damages. ※
Users can use different protocols according to their needs, but the following procedures must be completed before using the machine:

Surface marker staining
  • Resuspend the sample in 1~2ml solution and filter with Spectrum™ nylon mesh (42μM) to avoid blocking the Nozzle (final conc. : 4×105~106/mL) (Falcon cell strainer #352235 tube with mesh or #352340 40μm mesh is recommended), and place in a Falcon 12×175mm tube (Ca# 2052).
  • Note that unstained control samples are required for pre-test calibration.
  • The person who prepared the samples will be responsible for any clogging or damage caused by unfiltered samples.
DNA content analysis
Sample preparation: resuspend the sample in 1~2 ml without Nylon mesh filtration, but it must contain 500,000~1,000,000 Nuclei and place it in a Falcon 12×175mm tube.
Monday to the weekend 00:00-24:00 Certified users can make online reservations to self-operation

  1. No USB flash drive is allowed. Please use FTP to transfer files or bring your blank CD-ROM to burn data. Due to the limited space of the computer's hard disk, the administrator will delete the data from time to time to facilitate the normal operation of the instrument. We are not responsible for data storage.
  2. Without the consent of the administrator of the Center, you are not allowed to add or remove any parts, alter the system settings, or install software on the Center's public equipment. If any experiment requires any test, the administrator's consent must be sought first and accompanied by the engineer of the original manufacturer to carry out the testing without damaging the normal operation of the equipment, and only after the passing of the test can it be operated and used by the personnel approved by the administrator of the Center under the condition of the administrator's permission.
  3. According to the administrator's judgment, the violator is warned for the first time, canceled the right to use for one month for the second time, and canceled the right to use permanently for the third time; if the violator violates the above specification, resulting in the damage of the instrument, the violator shall pay compensation to repair the instrument and stop the right to use for one month.
